Statement: There Has Never Been a Nominee for Attorney General as Ethically Compromised as Todd Blanche

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Following is a statement from Amb. Norm Eisen (ret.), co-founder and board member of Democracy Defenders Action, on Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche’s nomination amid his Senate confirmation hearings:
“There has never been a nominee for U.S. attorney general as ethically compromised as Todd Blanche. Under his leadership, the DOJ has prioritized pursuing personal vendettas, abusing prosecutorial power for political retribution, and stonewalling the Epstein investigation, leading to a reckless failure to comply with the Epstein Files Transparency Act.
“This week, Judge Williams rejected a ridiculous Justice Department proposal that would have created a nearly $1.8 billion fund and granted sweeping legal protections benefiting President Trump and members of his family. The court’s extraordinary order is a devastating rebuke of Blanche’s leadership.
“This order should remove any remaining doubt about Todd Blanche’s fitness to serve as U.S. attorney general. The attorney general’s highest obligation is to the Constitution and the American people, not to the personal or political interests of any president. Yet this ruling confirms what Todd Blanche’s record has already shown: when forced to choose between the rule of law and Donald Trump, Todd Blanche chooses Trump.
“Todd Blanche has consistently demonstrated that he is unfit to serve as attorney general. The Senate should reject his nomination and reaffirm that the DOJ exists to administer justice impartially, not to serve as the president’s personal fixer.”
