Trump Refuses to Abandon $1.8B Slush Fund in “Act of Desperation”
July 31, 2026
The following is a statement from Amb. Norm Eisen (ret.), co-founder and board member of Democracy Defenders Action, regarding President Trump’s plan to appeal a federal judge’s order that voided the DOJ’s settlement in Trump v. IRS, calling the case and settlement “manipulation” and “collusion.”
“This is an act of desperation by President Trump to hold onto his collusive and corrupt tax immunity for himself and his family. His continued refusal to abandon the $1.8 billion slush fund, despite Judge Williams’ blistering rebuke, lays bare how far he is willing to go to prioritize his personal financial gain over the rule of law. The American people see right through these antics, as evidenced by his rapidly declining approval ratings.”
